Nookie brings suicide in Mumbai

They seem to take nookie very seriously in India. We are continually reading cases of suicides from women who find out their husbands are having an affair. The following incident is typical:

A 36-year-old housewife accused her husband of 17 years of having an extra-marital affair and jumped to her death on Tuesday dawn from the 19th floor of Crimson Towers in Kandivli (East), the third person to commit suicide at the plush housing society in Lokhandwala Complex.

In a suicide note in Hindi, Mamta Jha said she was tired of her husband Mukesh's double standards and did not want to be his second choice in life as she loved him. She also asked the 38-year-old to look after their only son, Sanket (15) after her death. The note has been sent for handwriting analysis.

This is the fourth instance of a mother jumping to her death from a highrise in the western suburbs since March this year. While the Samta Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death, officials are probing the possibility of pressing charges of abetment.
