Marriage down, divorce down, infidelity down..

Marriage down, divorce down, infidelity down..

It seems that we are witnessing declines in infidelity along with drops in the divorce rate (at least in the USA) according to research by W Bradford Wilcox of the National Marriage Project at the university of Virginia.  In a slightly confusing report Wilcox  says that Despite the hype, fewer than 5 % of men cheat annually and only about 20 % are unfaithful over a lifetime. Infidelity has remained low and stable for over 20 years. In fact the numbers are so low that most people think they must be wrong.  These figures do seem gloriously optimistic and certainly would not be replicated this side of the pond.  Wilcox cites the following reasons for declines in marriage and infidelity:

 * Marriage is down as more people are living together and delaying the the walk down the aisle.
    * With this bad economy, the opportunity to cheat is diminished when men are working two jobs.
    * The economy has affected a man’s ability to support a wife and a mistress.
    * Internet porn, once believed to lead to infidelity, has been usurped by fantasy football.

Well I don't know about this - think internet porn, think fantasy footballers!!!
