Social networking leads to faster intimacy
Facebook, Twitter, online dating sites, MySpace and of course SMS conversation… you name it, somewhere right now someone is chatting up another someone they'd probably never speak to or meet if it weren't for the comfortable anonymity of social media. In fact, a poll conducted by Shape and Men's Fitness in the USA has reported that 40 percent of women admit that sex with a new love interest was fast-tracked thanks to Web 2.0.
A psychologist postulates that the reason for this rather titillating fact is that social media creates anticipation that would otherwise not be have occurred. According to Dr Belisa Vranich, chatting to someone online or via SMS gives us the false impression of familiarity, speeding up the "get to know each other" stage of a budding relationship. "It gives the false impression that you've actually been together for a longer amount of time, so it's actually okay to have sex quicker,"
