Adulterous relationship key to good mental health?
11 Jan 2011
Having an adulterous relationship may be good for your mental health.A recent study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry revealed that increased relationship duration has a protective effect on mental health but that legal relationship status did not.
This could indicate that having a long-term adulterous relationship could help to protect mental health.
Commenting on these findings was Caroline Carr, clinical hypnotherapist and author of Living With Depression.
She said: "The aim is to stay with somebody in a functional, wonderful relationship, and sometimes it can just take a few little adjustments to make sure that is happening.
"It is about understanding that nothing ever stands still, so we all grow and develop and change but we have to recognise that in each other and be glad of it."
A survey by extra-marital dating site Loving Links last year found that the average married couple is thoroughly bored with each other ten years and 11 months after the wedding.
