Adulterous footballers 'normalise infidelity'
29 Dec 2010
The vast number of celebrity footballers who are unfaithful has changed the way people view infidelity.Reg Bailey, chief executive of the Mothers' Union, told the Daily Telegraph that footballers normalise infidelity.
He claims that the behaviour of these celebrities "undoubtedly" influences young people and the way they view infidelity.
Jamie Murdoch, children and young people development manager for counsellors Relate, concurred with Mr Bailey.
He told the news provider: "Young people are growing up in a media-influenced culture where they perceive that having an affair is normal.
"Celebrity and football culture and its portrayal in the media could already be having an impact on future relationships."
Footballers who were caught playing away from home this year include Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch. Both players were reported to have had a bit of nookie with prostitutes.
However, both Colleen Rooney and Abbey Clancy forgave their cheating beaus, suggesting that an increasing number of people are willing to stay with an unfaithful partner.
