Unfaithful men looking to buy their mistress an inexpensive but fashionable gift could consider some costume jewellery.

The trend for this type of jewellery, in particular those that are "oversized" and "chunky", is set to continue.

That is according to Danielle Radojcin, fashion and beauty director at fashion & lifestyle website handbag.com, who said that costume jewellery had become fashionable because of the recession.

However, she added that legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel is still influencing the industry years after her death.

She said: "I think it has a lot to do with the continuing popularity of Coco Chanel as a result of the two recent biopics released about her in the last few years - she was a massive cheerleader of faux jewels."

So men looking to buy their extra-marital lover a gift without their spouse noticing may like to consider going for some costume jewellery, as they will be in keeping with fashion and impress their bit on the side.
