Internet increases chance of finding an extra-marital lover

Having the internet at home increases the chance of developing an adulterous relationship and may soon become the primary way for couples to meet. That is according to research by the American Sociological Association, which found adults who have the internet at home are more likely to be in a relationship than those who are not online.
Reuben J Thomas, an assistant professor of sociology at the City University of New York, said that the internet was becoming a prime meeting place for adults to meet prospective partners.
He said: "With the meteoric rise of the internet as a way couples have met in the past few years … it is possible that in the next several years the internet could eclipse friends as the most influential way Americans meet their romantic partners, displacing friends out of the top position for the first time since the early 1940s."
The study was presented at the American Sociological Association's 105th Annual Meeting.
