Infidelity can 'increase commitment'

Infidelity can 'increase commitment' Getting a bit on the side can make your marriage stronger because many couples use it as an opportunity to increase commitment.

That is according to Paula Hall, relationship psychotherapist with counselling service Relate, who said that having an adulterous relationship is more common nowadays.

She said: "Sometimes people don't realise how easy it can be to fall into temptation until they have.

"And with more and more people working away from home and travelling independently from their partner, there are more opportunities for this to happen."

Ms Hall added that some couples learn from adultery by finding out about themselves and their boundaries.

Many couples also discover new things about their relationship and learn what "they need to cherish more".

A recent survey by extra-marital dating website lovinglinks.co.uk found that marriage ruins sex lives, with six out of ten saying marriage has taken the excitement out of it.

It was also revealed that a fifth of married people would understand if their partner confessed to adultery.
