Guatemalan temples offer 'magical experience'

Should you be thinking about taking your extra-marital lover on a romantic getaway, you may want to consider visiting the Guatemalan temples at dawn or dusk, as they offer a "magical experience".

That is the opinion of Laura Rendell-Dunn, press and marketing executive for Journey Latin America, who said that the Mayan Temples of Tikal at dusk are "bathed in a deep golden glow".

Her comments were made following the announcement that the Mayan temples at Tikal have won a Lonely Planet Award, and are now considered the greatest historical experience on Earth.

Ms Rendell-Dunn said: "The Mayan archaeological site of Tikal is a network of steep sky-scraper pyramids which pierce the remote forest canopy and is hidden amongst low-lying jungle.

"For a truly magical experience, rise at dawn or linger until dusk, when there are very few visitors around."

She added that other places in the area that should be visited are Belize, an English speaking country, and the Ambergris Cave, where visitors can explore the Blue Hole.
