Women tend to have a secret affair to 'forge a bond'

Women tend to have a secret affair to 'forge a bond' Women tend to look for an adulterous relationship in order to form a bond with a new partner.

That is according to author Sydney Biddle Barrows, who believes that men and women take an extra-marital lover for different reasons, reports lifestyle magazine The Age.

She is quoted as saying: "There are a lot of men who stray for relationship reasons too, but women tend to stray more to form a bond."

This sentiment is mirrored by psychologist Dr Shirley Glass, who was interviewed on the reasons behind cheating by Psychology Today.

Dr Glass told the news provider: "Surveys show that for women, the highest justification [for having an affair] is for love; emotional intimacy is next. Sex is last on their list of justifications. It's the opposite for men; sex scores the highest."

However, this may seem as contradictory to recent research which found that women are most likely to have a secret affair in their 30s and 40s because they become more aware that their biological clock is ticking.
