Could rom-coms lead to a secret affair?
14 Jul 2010
Romantic comedies leave women feeling unsatisfied with their relationship, which could lead them to partake in an adulterous relationship.Honey Langcaster-James, TV psychologist, said that girlfriends and wives can feel disenchanted when their partner does not measure up to the leading man portrayed on-screen.
She said: "For some women who watch a lot of romantic-comedies and romantic films, they may become dissatisfied that their husband in real life is not the same as the George Clooney or Brad Pitt character, and that certainly can be a source of dissatisfaction."
However, an extra-marital lover looking to spoil his mistress may want to take note of the actions of the men in rom-coms, as they are a good source of ideas for making a leading lady feel special.
A recent OnePoll survey found that one in five adults who are in a relationship admitted that they are also in love with someone else. One in six also divulged that they would go on to pursue this affair.
