Women noisy during sex to make men 'feel good'
7 Jul 2010
A quarter of women admit that they are routinely more vocal than they might need to be during a bit of nookie because they want their partner to feel good and to manipulate the situation to their advantage. This may come as a surprise to many men enjoying an adulterous relationship as there is a one in four chance that their mistress's passionate cries are fake.
Researchers at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) also found that more than 80 per cent of women pretended to have orgasms.
However, Gayle Brewer from UCLan revealed that most women were not faking pleasure to gain something.
She said: "Most women are not necessarily doing this for material gain, but instead, as 92 per cent of participants admitted, as way to boost their partner's self-esteem and make them feel confident about their sexual performance and desirability."
Other reasons that women listed for making noises during sex were fatigue, boredom or discomfort rather than as a direct expression of sexual arousal.
In popular culture, one of the most well known instances of a woman faking an orgasm was in the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally, which saw Meg Ryan pretending to orgasm in a cafe.
