A secret affair could save your marriage Having an adulterous relationship could help to save a flailing marriage, new self-help book claims.

Marriage therapist Mira Kirshenbaum says that having the right kind of affair can be a positive thing because it forces a break from inertia, the Guardian reports.

Her novel, When Good People Have Affairs, was released earlier this month says that society fails to note the positives of infidelity.

She also insists that a secret relationship should remain secret always, as owning up has a more damaging effect.

The news provider quotes her as saying: "Sometimes an affair can be the best way for the person who has been unfaithful to get the information and impetus to change."

Should a cheated spouse discover your extra-marital lover, however, Kirshenbaum says that their reaction will simply depend on what kind of person they are.

"Your whole future happiness together depends on whether he's basically vengeful or basically merciful," she says.

Mira Kirshenbaum has penned a number of titles in her career including Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay and Everything Happens for a Reason.
