In the US, postings on social networking website Facebook have been used as evidence against people having an adulterous relationship. Those currently enjoying a bit on the side should therefore be warned against putting up pictures of an extra-marital lover and poking them too often.
William T Batchelor II of the law firm Carolina Legal Associates told Star News Online: "The Internet has changed 100 percent how domestic [law] is done.
"It exposes the truth. It's written generally by the person who says they didn't do it. There's nothing left to talk about."
He added that around 20 per cent of divorce cases now involve evidence from sites such as Facebook or Myspace.
A recent survey by mobile phone technology company Telstra revealed that 40 per cent of women regularly checked their partner's phone for flirty texts.
This could also be true of a social networking account, so if you are playing away from home, it is probably best to keep it off the World Wide Web.
