Many unfaithful spouses 'happy in their marriages' Having a secret affair can strengthen a marriage and many unfaithful partners are happy with in their marital relationships.

That is according to Esther Perel, author of Mating in Captivity, who was speaking in an interview with Babble, a website for parents.

Rather than being unhappy, many people that enjoy discreet dating do so not because they are unhappy with their spouse, but because they want other relationships too.

Perel claims that most people's expectations are too high when it comes to what a husband or wife can provide them with.

She told the news provider: "What provides stability and consistency is not necessary what provides surprise and change and risk, which is a key part of erotic intensity.

"What eroticism thrives on is what family life defends against. Family life thrives on the predictable, and predictability kills desire for most people."

The author argues that a secret affair can improve a marriage because the adulterous partner has more energy to put into their home life.

Perel is said to be one of the most respected voices on erotic intelligence in the US and has appeared and has appeared on TV shows such as Opera and The Today show.
