Adulterers advised to 'do it themselves' While indulging in some do it yourself may be the opposite ambition of those who are vying for a bit of nookie, research suggests this could be the best way for men to get some bedroom action.

According to a study of 1,000 Brits by equipment retailer Bosch, women are particularly attracted to a man who knows how to handle his nuts and bolts.

Indeed, 37 per cent of those questioned said they would rather date a guy who is good at DIY, such as erecting furniture and hammering fixtures.

Bosch's DIY expert Chris Tidy commented: "While all women love to be romanced, it seems your DIY skills are the thing they are really looking out for.

"It's no longer about the flowers you buy or the chocolates you give them, but how good you are at putting up shelves."

Meanwhile, those who prefer to sow their seed in the garden are less likely to tempt a potential mistress, with just 16 per cent of women stating that they want a green-fingered man.

Mr Tidy's, essential, advice to men was to get to grips with their power tools.
