Silence not infidelity causing divorce
10 Jun 2010
With the number of divorces falling in every age group but the over 60s, it seems it is the toll of a long relationship rather than marital infidelity that is causing the older generation to break up.As an article in the Daily Mail highlights, the reason those in this age group are apparently the most likely to separate has nothing to do with adultery.
"The catalyst is not infidelity, just a slow retreat into crushing, rancorous silence," it reads.
Indeed, it reveals, it is the "deathly hush" that surrounds couple's homes once their children have flown the nest that is spurring a rise in late-life separations.
The fall in divorce rates may also suggest that there is a growing acceptance of adultery and that people are less likely to throw in the towel when they find out their partner has been getting a bit of nookie elsewhere.
Certainly John Terry's cheated Mrs, Toni, will not let a little bit of infidelity ruin her marriage to the England footballer.
She even told OK! magazine this week that they are a "strong couple" and that nothing, including his playing away from home with a team-mate's ex-girlfriend, will come between them.
