Sympathy 'difficult' for some trophy wives

It is difficult to feel sympathy for some of the wives of cheating celebrities because it is almost common knowledge that rich, powerful and good looking men will be playing away from home.

That is according to Amy Laurent, writing for the Huffington Post, who questioned whether the wives of these celebrity cheaters are actually shocked or not.

She cited a CNN statistic reported recently which indicated that as many as eight or nine in ten professional athletes cheat.

"My guess is that an impromptu poll on the streets would yield pretty much the same opinion," she said.

"It seems to be common knowledge - even public expectation - that these men will cheat even though most of them have wives."

However, she concluded that, while these women may not be completely naive, many of them will have married for genuine love rather than celebrity status or money.

Tiger Woods, Ashley Cole and Ronan Keating are just some of the men to have been caught up in high-profile scandals around their secret affairs this year.
