Adulterers must be wary of 'chexting', warn lawyers
26 May 2010
Those who are playing away from home need to be cautious about sending text messages to their extramarital lovers. That is the advice of US divorce law firm Curtis R Cowan which states that increasing numbers of people are discovering their partner's infidelities through un-erased mobile phone communications.
The company has even coined a phrase for the phenomenon, which has exposed the adulterous ways of celebrities such as Jesse James, Tiger Woods and most recently in the UK Ronan Keating.
It calls cheating via text messages 'chexting', a similar phrase to 'sexting', which implies sending sexually explicit messages, as demonstrated by British TV personality Vernon Kay.
"In some cases cheating occurs by cell phone, while in others it occurs via internet chat rooms or instant messaging," comments Curtis R Cowan.
It reveals that the main headache for those getting a bit of nookie is that chexting provides concrete "proof that a spouse has been unfaithful".
This could therefore make it difficult to deny or play down the secret affair to your cheated spouse.
