Adultery is not an 'illness'

Adultery is not an 'illness' With increasing numbers of celebrities checking into rehab for so-called 'sex addiction' once their infidelities are exposed, there is a growing misconception that adultery is an illness.

That is according to mental health specialist Andrew M Brown, who wrote in the Telegraph yesterday (May 18th) that playing away from home is not a medical ailment.

"I am extremely doubtful whether adultery is an addiction," he writes.

"I don’t think it’s any kind of medical problem or illness."

Mr Brown's comments came with regards to an agony aunt response he had seen featured in a leading US Magazine, which suggested that infidelity should be viewed in the same capacity as alcoholism or drug dependency, something he rejects.

But, Mr Brown's opinion is one that seems to be shared by Playboy founder Hugh Heffner.

The self-confessed ladies' man recently told AskMen that he believes unfaithful men who claim sex addiction, such as Tiger Woods and Jesse James, are "cop outs" hiding from the truth.

"Sex is not like a drug or alcohol. It doesn't affect the physicality in the same way. But it can become very obsessive," he told the news provider.
