Emotional secret affairs more common While getting a bit of nookie may seem like the ultimate benefit of playing away from home for many, research suggests not all adulterers want to get physical.

According to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, around 35 per cent of women and 45 per cent of men admit that, although they are married but looking, their primary ambition is emotional companionship, reports YourTango.

This compares substantially to the 15 percent of wives and 25 percent of husbands who reveal they have engaged in physical extramarital relations.

"Though infidelity statistics are notoriously unreliable, since people are reluctant to admit any kind of affair, it seems safe to say that emotional cheating is more common than a physical affair," reveals the news provider.

However while women who are caught playing away from home may be better off admitting that they were in it for the friendship, men will more likely be forgiven if they claim to have just been getting a bit of nookie.

In a recent article in theresident.com, relationship expert Neil Rosenthal suggests that men tend to be more focused on the sexual aspect of a secret affair.ADNFCR-2938-ID-19752645-ADNFCR
