Be safe when indulging in a secret affair
25 Mar 2010
With the internet having enabled more people to indulge in adultery, people playing away from home have been urged to always put their safety first.According to NHS Hartlepool, there has been a rise in the number of cases of syphilis over recent years as a result of people having unprotected sex with casual partners and strangers.
With the threat of this and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) higher than ever, it makes sense for people to use condoms when enjoying an extra-marital lover.
Professor Peter Kelly, executive director of public health for NHS Hartlepool, said that the internet and social networking sites are changing the way that people interact, making casual sex easier to obtain.
"It is important that people avoid high-risk sexual behaviours and practise safe sex to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections," he said.
As well as the devastating health implications that STIs can have, they could also be quite difficult to explain away to a spouse following an adulterous relationship.
