Poll reveals adulterous ways of the Arabs

Poll reveals adulterous ways of the Arabs It seems that the fashion for infidelity is not confined to the west after a recent poll showed that almost one-fifth of men in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) admitted being unfaithful to their partners.

The research carried out by YouGov Siraj found that 19 per cent of men owned up to adultery, compared to only six per cent of women, reports tradesarabia.com.

In total, some 14 per cent of people in a relationship admitted to having a secret affair with an extramarital lover, while the same proportion suspected their other half of playing away from home.

The study also revealed some interesting statistics about the UAE's attitude to adultery.

Indeed, 38 per cent of people said that it is not being unfaithful itself that concerns them but rather if their partner was to fall in love with their extramarital lover.

Joanna Longworth, chief marketing officer for YouGov Siraj, told the news provider: "What people find most frightening is not perhaps the actual act of infidelity, it is more the idea they are loved less and that someone else is loved more. In the eyes of the UAE, this seems to be more of a betrayal."

The higher proportion of male adulterers is supported by research from evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa who said it is in men's nature to be slightly polygamous.ADNFCR-2938-ID-19672453-ADNFCR
