French presidential couple accused of adultery
10 Mar 2010
French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his model wife Carla Bruni may both be having secret affairs if rumours are to be believed.Allegations of infidelities within the marriage first broke on the social networking site Twitter, where Ms Bruni was accused of striking up an extramarital relationship with musician Benjamin Biolay, who is six years her junior.
Whether he was seeking solace from the revelation or just looking for a bit of nookie himself, the president was then accused of turning to his 40-year-old ecology minister Chantal Jouanno.
Mr Sarkozy has, as of yet, neither denied or admitted the infidelity, but increasing speculation suggests that France's first lady may not be their president's first and only lady.
Reputed French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche added extra weight to the possibility of an open and extramarital relationship when it reported on the potential secret affairs.
Mrs Bruni has had a string of relationships with famous musicians including Mick Jagger and in the past "joked" that she found monogamy boring.
If the rumours are true, it could support the opinion that monogamy in not essential to maintain a relationship, as two people can be actively married but looking.
