The real life "Date Doctor", on which the Wills Smith film Hitch was based, has revealed his top dating tips for the 21st century suitor.

Giving a lesson in love at the University of Central Arkansas this week, Dave Coleman revealed how both men and women can find the perfect match, according to the university's newspaper the Echo.

He advised that men get into a woman's heart and consider her feelings. Even if you are looking for a bit on the side, women may still have a sensitivity, which men should play to.

When going on your first extra-marital date, Mr Coleman says maintaining good eye contact is crucial as it will display your interest.

Breaking the touch barrier is also an important step at establishing the connection. Those hoping for a bit of nookie may want to do this sooner though, before emotions start to gather pace.

The person who is least invested in the relationship is most likely to maintain the highest level of control, he claims.

He told the news provider that if a person allows inappropriate action to take place, it will continue to take place.

Anyone hoping for a secret affair may wish to heed this advice and set the boundaries early on.

If you are just looking for a mistress for one night, make sure she knows. Or if you want a long-term secret affair both parties will have to be enthusiastic.
