Online dating gaining acceptance around the globe
16 Feb 2010
A decade ago the idea of finding a new partner online would have seemed impractical and perhaps a little depressing. Now millions of people around the world are logging on to find love or just a bit on the side as internet dating gains acceptance.
According to a new survey carried out on behalf of the BBC World Service, three out of ten global web users think the internet is a good place to meet someone new.
Acceptance of internet dating is highest in India and Pakistan, where 59 per cent and 60 per cent of people respectively regard the web as a great dating resource.
Sam Mountford, research director at GlobeScan, which conducted the research, said: "This shows what a major role the internet now plays in the lives of millions of people around the world."
The web is certainly a great place for adulterous husbands and wives seeking secret affairs, as chatting online allows them to keep their activities a closely guarded secret.
