Princess Margaret's alleged affair coming to the big screen

The alleged secret affair between Princess Margaret and notorious gangster John Bindon is to be the focus of a new movie by Sexy Beast writer Louis Mellis.

According to OK! magazine, producers have asked British actress Kate Beckinsale to play the role of the late royal in the film.

It will tell the tale of Princess Margaret's supposed extra-marital relationship with Mr Bindon, who she met on the Caribbean island of Mustique.

Terence Doyle, editor of British Film Magazine, said the movie has all the right ingredients to make a fun yet controversial piece of British cinema, namely "sex, scandal and a misbehaving princess".

"Beckinsale would be perfect as Princess Margaret and Jason Statham would make a great Bindon," he added.

Queen Elizabeth's younger sister died in 2002. She is said to have had a number of secret affairs with several men, although many of the liaisons remain unproven.
