According to the Daily Mail's Chris Leadbeater, Howard's House in the county is a great choice for a truly romantic getaway.

Whether you're able to whisk your lover away for Valentine's Day, or have to choose a different weekend because of commitments at home, the hotel is a perfect retreat at any time of the year.

Mr Leadbeater said there are just nine rooms in Howard's House, which is located in the village of Teffont Evias near Salisbury, so guests are guaranteed privacy.

With Stonehenge just ten miles away and plenty of beautiful countryside to walk in, filling up your weekend will not be difficult, if you can tear yourself away from the bedroom of course.

The Daily Mail published another list of top Valentine's Day mini break destinations recently. Among them was the Royal Harbour Hotel in Kent and the Bodysgallen Hall and Spa in Llandudno.
