Infidelity viewed lightly by one in ten Taiwanese It seems that many Taiwanese people take a relaxed attitude towards adultery, with more than one in ten agreeing that it is not a make or break issue.

According to the China Post, some 11.5 per cent of married people in Taiwan surveyed by National Chengchi University said extra-marital affairs are just casual relationships that should not be taken too seriously.

The poll revealed that 5.8 per cent of Taiwanese spouses have been cheated on, while 3.3 per cent have been unfaithful themselves.

This means that overall, a total of 9.1 per cent of marriages in Taiwan have been affected by adultery in some way.

Of course the numbers may be much higher, as not all of those questioned may have admitted to playing away from home.

Last month, Jenny Block, author of Open: Love, Sex and Life in an Open Marriage, said it should not come as a surprise if one half of a married couple cheats, as humans are not naturally monogamous.

In an article for Newsweek, she said studies show that one in three men and one in four women will sleep with someone else behind their partner's back at some point.
