Beware of itemised phone bills

If your other half insists on getting itemised phone bills, don't call your extra-marital lover from the landline.

A new service launched in the US allows people to trace unknown numbers simply by putting them into a search box and hitting go.

ReversePhoneDetective.com trawls through a massive database and apparently provides users with information including names, addresses, family member details and even maps.

It can also provide information on mobile phone numbers, so cheating spouses shouldn't think they can escape discovery by calling their secret affair on their BlackBerry or their iPhone instead.

Of course ReversePhoneDetective.com is a US service, so won't work with UK numbers, but tech savvy husbands and wives may be able to find similar services on the web, or at the very least may become suspicious about unknown numbers.

Perhaps the best solution is to pick up a cheap pay-as-you-go mobile specifically for communicating with your bit on the side, and make sure you hide it.
