Choose the right perfume for your mistress this Valentine's Day

Perfume could be a great gift for a mistress this Valentine's Day, as she could wear it whenever you meet and it will remind her of you when you're apart.

But how do you know which scent to go for and what if she doesn't like it?

To help men solve this dilemma, David Pybus of Dragon's Den company Scents of Time has carried out some research linking fragrances and personalities.

He found that traditionalists and thinkers tend to go for classic perfumes like Estee Lauder's Beautiful and Chanel No. 5.

If your extra-marital lover is artistic, she'll probably prefer more obscure scents such as Dana's Tabu and Rock 'n' Rose by Valentino.

For practical ladies, Chanel's Chance could work a treat, while idealists are likely to choose fragrances like Coco Mademoiselle, also by Chanel, and Paloma Picasso.

Of course it's important to pick one that you like the smell of too. Although if a recent survey by scientists in Florida is anything to go by, her natural scent is more likely to turn you on than a bottle of eau de parfum.

They discovered that men's testosterone levels rise in response to a woman's natural smell when she is at her most fertile.
