Although Barack Obama has called Indonesia ‘a beacon of light in the Muslim world’ all the news coming out of Indonesia recently has been over sexual repression. The other day a woman was flogged in public for ‘being ‘close proximity’ to a man. The woman was in the process of divorcing her husband but she was dragged screaming by the crowd and clerics to the town square where a masked cleric fogged her mecilessly in front of a baying crowd. I read stories like this and I really worry. Only last year Muslim groups in the uK were calling for the rights to use Sharia law in their own communities. Of course, it won’t start off with flogging, it will be over ‘property’ disputes. But then that’s what adultery punishment is – a property dispute!!! – Your wife is your property and has been used by someone else. These things are insiduous and can only make communities look back to old values and give them value. If this adultery blog has any purpose it is to higlight the repression of sexuality around the world as well as to take delight in adultery news and events in this country.
