BBC Five Live

[Posted January 22nd, 2009]

I guested on Five Live last night with Richard Madeley.   It was an interesting topic of affairs and the effect on children.  Naturally I could not argue that children benefit from parental infidelity but I did point out that a Loving links affair is less likely to explode nastily than a random affair in the office or tennis club.

Growing up with parents who didn’t like each other (who both had affairs), I decided to avoid marriage until I was certain that I was mature enough to understand the potential harm that unhappy marriages and/or extramarital affairs can cause to offspring. However, despite this, I find myself in an unfulfilled marriage. All I can say with certainty is my son will not grow up with parents whose tolerance of each other impacts negatively on his life like mine did. I can either leave my husband or have an affair and ultimately, the restoration of certain aspects in my life can ensure I can live happily without others. We only wear our own shoes, lets not be quick to judge others who are limping along.
