Up the pole in Helsinki
[Posted April 4th, 2008]Finnish Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva was forced to quit his job this week after he admitted bombarding a stripper with mobile phone texts. Finnish chums of mine suggest that it was the fact that he made himself look ridiculous, rather than the fact that he wanted to know what she wore under her dress, that he was obliged to step down. Those who know Helsinki are aware that it is quite normal to see cabinet ministers on the prowl in pick up joints like Storyville jazz club. Well good luck to them I say! It can get very chilly in Finland in the winter.
