Blind date escape route
[Posted March 16th, 2008]I just came across an interesting US service to get you out of a crap blind date:
Have you ever been on a really awful date that was over before it even started? Alright, I admit it - it’s happened to me. I’m pretty shy and I just didn’t have it in me to say: "I’m sorry, this date isn’t really ‘doing it’ for me. What do ya’ say we call it a night?"
It’s happened to all of us. While you’re sitting there, listening to your date talk about their tin-foil ball collection, you’re looking for the emergency exits. You think to yourself: If only someone would call or intercept the horrible date - it would make ending the evening so much easier. Ah … this is where the Mobile Alibi comes in handy.
The Mobile Alibi is a new service that’s provided to your cellphone. Basically, you create an account, type a telephone number into the blank field, choose a male or female voice and give that voice a name. You can write a message that you’d like the voice to recite at a specified time. Suddenly, during your date, you’ll receive a ‘telephone call.’
This may sounds pretty crazy, but it’s the new way of bowing-out of a really boring date. Instead of offending your date, you can simply say: "Well this has been fun, but that was my co-worker on the phone. I’m needed at the office." Voila! Pay the check and emjoy the fresh air that freedom has to offer.
We should have a service like this in the uK too.
